October was a very dynamic month.
We did not plan for increasing our traffic. Our focus was to increase the conversion over email.
Dreamer’s Plan
We planned for making a big business. We discussed our strategies for hitting the milestone of 200,000 traffic by December 2016 to make Rs. 1,00,000 profit monthly.
We planned for even a bigger business. We wanted to make 10 Lakh profit every month by end of 2017. It is not going to be easy but we knew how to walk on the tough path. We were even interested in sharing all the learnings with our audience. Our team was excited with the execution plan.
Then I asked a question from everyone in my team, “How much money do you need every month to stay happy?” They were wondering why I was asking such a question. The question was not about money that we need in lifetime. The question was simply how much money anyone needs every month.
Everyone did a quick calculation in their minds and we came up with a number 1,10,000 only. I added 40,000 as buffer & business expenses.
So we need only 1,50,000/- every month to keep our lives and business running.
The discussion changed our perspective to business. We were no longer greedy and ambitious for 10,00,000 monthly goal. Sanity came to our minds.
Of course we will keep doing our business with 100% dedication but our targets are going to be different.
We will not measure our business with the money. Our business goals are going to be aligned with the purpose of our life. If you are interested in knowing more about my business philosophy then share your feelings in the comments.

Meditation Retreat
We went to a meditation retreat in mid of the month. We spent three days without doing any business work. Our minds got more fresh and active.
The most important learning from the retreat, “Man has unlimited desires but the resources are finite”. Every person has some basic needs like Roti, Kapda & Makaan. We also have wants like a best mobile, a fast laptop, and a relaxing long vacation. There is nothing wrong with needs and wants. The issue arises when we want to posses more than what we actually need. The never ending desire of owning a lot of wealth. The greed of having a biggest business in your city, country or the world.
We are happy by limiting ourselves to our needs and wants. We had some more changes in business plans after the retreat.
Unexpected Expenses
I manage my finances in such a way that my monthly expenses are taken care of from my business or savings. I planned my next financial year based on my current needs.
But one unexpected expense of 1,20,000 appeared on the table. I had to sacrifice some of my plans to bear the loss of 1,20,000 last month.
Diwali Celebrations
We had a fantastic weekend on Diwali. We celebrated diwali first time in Chandigarh. We spent Saturday evening in Coveda (Alternate schooling system in my City) where we enjoyed the light decoration, sweets & snacks.
We spent our Sunday in making sweets like Kaju Barfi, Rasgulla and Jalebi 🙂 (We love cooking at home)
Summary of what we planned for October
- Changing the theme of Cash Overflow
- Improving the landing page & home page for email conversion
- Optimize Affiliate Marketing for more revenue from same traffic
- Experimenting with email marketing
Content for October
I published only three articles on cash overflow including one guest post. I know the numbers are very small. Most of my time went into website optimization and email marketing.
I did not get much time to publish my articles on external websites like YourStory, HuffPost, LifeHacker and Entrepreneur.
Traffic for October
10% increase in the traffic as compared to previous month. I count traffic as number of sessions. We had 40,000 sessions in September and 44,000 sessions in October.
Revenue for October – Rs. 70,902 ($1,100)
- Tech & Banking Affiliate – 67,776
- Amazon Affiliate – 865
- Display Ads – 3,120
We had 4.5% of revenue from Display Ads. The money from Google Adsense keeps on increasing with the traffic.
As I mentioned last time, I don’t want to spoil the experience of my readers by showing the Ads on my website. I decided to remove the Ads this month.
What’s the income for November?
I could not get time to write an exclusive detailed income report for November.
For people who are curious about knowing the Nov numbers.
Revenue for November – Rs. 1,62,300 ($2,500)
- Affiliate Marketing – 1,62,300
- Display Ads – dropped

One query:
How affiliate marketing can be introduced into a blog?
Is it like,
1. Do I need to contact the ‘Companies’ to get their ‘links’?
2. Then Inject the ‘links’ into blogs?
Its very nice to see your Income Report. Well done keep it up.
